Is it safe to put baby in travel cot to sleep full time.. I have very little space so a travel cot would be easier as i could fold it down, I would use a normal cot mattress as it is much thicker than the travel cot mattresses.

I don't see why not, just like u have already said I'd use a proper mattress because travel ones are rubbish from the ones I've seen! X

What about the chicco lullago crib? It's a crib but it folds away like a travel cot. My LO is 5 months and will sleep in it until we put her into her cot in her own room. It has meant we haven't needed to invest in a separate travel cot, when we go away we take the lullago.

It won't work for older babies though I don't think ...

Once they can roll over they can sleep in whichever position they want and it's safe (ie on side or on back or on tummy). The risk at the beginning is that they would end up face down in the mattress and aren't strong enough yet to turn their head to the side to get enough air. Mind, you should always put them  on their back but if they turn themselves it's fine. My LO slept on the side from about 15 weeks onwards and since from 5 months sleeping on his tummy.

If you get a proper mattress I don't see an issue, only thing I will say is our travel cot (we use it when staying with MIL) started to dip in the middle as my little girl got heavier rather than being totally flat. We just put a wooden board in the base of the traveled it underneath the mattress which keeps it much flatter.

In regards to baby rolling. My daughter started rolling on to her front at about 3 or 4 months. It scared the life out of me but (as a pp said) my health visitor told me that once they are strong enough to roll they can sleep however they want because they are strong enough to move themself if they need to. Still put them down on their back but don't panic if the roll over. Just make sure there are no loose blankets (if using a blanket, use a cellular one tucked in tight), no bumpers, toys etc, basically anything that baby could put their face against. All that we have in the cot is the fitted sheet and baby in a sleepbag. Once we've allowed her to roll and sleep however she wants she settles and sleeps so much better!
