hi all, my child is due to have 10 baby teeth removed this month. I feel that it is far to many to have removed in one go, has anyone been in the same situation and did there child cope well after, ie with eating and such? I should point out that he has very weak teeth and it is not through neglect and was on a lot of medication when younger.[smilie=022.gif]

Hey Lea

My dd who is 8 is due to have a tooth removed at hospital this month after many trips to the dentist and teeth removed (she has too many teeth).

Is your son having it done at the dentist or the hospital?

My dd (after a lot of injections etc) would not let the dentist near here so after a bit of a wait we are off to hospital on the 24th of this month for her to be put to sleep and have the final one removed.(i'm more anxious than her..lol)

10 sounds a lot but i'm sure your son will cope jus fine (as kids do) and at least will al be over in one go.

All the best Carlie

hiya

my son who is 6 had 5 teeth out last monday,

we went to the hospital for it doing and they put him to sleep.

we arrived at half 8 in the morning (our appointment was 8,45) we saw the dentist at 8.45 who explained everything again looked at his teeth briefly and asked if we had any questions.

we were asked to sit back in thw waiting room and at 9 they came for him, his dad took him in to be put under as im pregnant and they dont advise you to go in if you are, he came back after 10 mins and we waited another 20 until the nurse came for us and took us to see him,

he was very sleepy and dribbly (mostly saliva not blood) we waited 5 mins and he got up and oh carried him to the car.

we took him home and were back for about 10ish, my son chilled on the sofa for about half hour then was playing as usual (quiet play no running about, with a surprise toy we had bought for him being so brave!) after another hour he had some soup and was fine, later he had chips!!

we have had no problems since and he went back to school the next day.

i was worried about him being put to sleep but he was only out for about 10/15 mins and was fine, in fact i was surprised at how fast he recovered,

sorry if ive babbled but i hope its been of some help x

Hey Nicola

Im quite surprised your little one was home by 10ish, after our consultation at the hospital on wednesday I was told dd would not be allowed home until the afternoon (her appointment is 8am).

I was told after waking from the anesthetic she would have to eat something and wait a few hours??

I have also had to sign a form saying she must not go to school/do any activities for 24/48 hours after the anesthetic incase of adverse effects?!?!

Im glad your son recovered well its amazing how well kids cope.

Hiya,

Thanks for the advice.
He is having it done at hospital and is being put to sleep. I think he will be ok but i am being an over protective mum. I am just concerned because they are removing the four bottom molars and uppers and two top front teeth. How he gonna chew.

Hey Lea

He will be fine but know how ya feel!

As for the chewing ive had both my upper back teeth removed and i chew just fine...lol.

And just think could be worse my dd is having her front one removed as she has an extra baby tooth at the front which is stopping her adult tooth coming through, (and shes lost the other front tooth ) so she will have one BIG gap

Bless her.

Good luck with it:)

Hi Lea

My little bloke who is nearly four had 6 teeth out a month ago by general anaesthetic cos he is too young for just sedation. It was horrible but even the next day, after weeks of him been ill and miserable from the pain his bad teeth were causing him, he was amazingly well and much happier. I was worried how he would eat as he had all his molars out but was told that the gum where the tooth has been extracted from goes hard quickly and that they manage easily to chew with that and the remaining teeth. Four weeks on and I can honestly say he has had no problems whatsoever, eating so much better. He had lost alot of weight before because he found it so painful to eat with his bad teeth, now filling out again.

Hiya

My little girl had 12 removed two years ago,,,she had hers removed in hospital by GA...our dentist wouldnt remove any as she is epileptic and asthmatic..this is why she had to have so many removed...the medication she had been using had affected her already weak teeth and they decided to take all the teeth out that had even a small problem rather than treat her teeth as when at the dentists she was getting aggitated and was in danger of fitting. Anyway..she was in in the morning and out by evening, was quite weepy and sore for the first day then bounced back the next...she took quite a while to eat normally but her gums seemed to harden so she could eat quite well.

hope I havent waffled on too much xxx

take care and hope LO is ok xxx

This is such a shame did you not brush their teeth or watch what they eat it’s an awful lot of teeth to be removed and so sad and painful for them ,I’ve a 9,3,2 year old and not one needed one removed, daily brushing twice a day and no sweets chocs etc helps massively I couldn’t imagine taking them for that many teeth removed I’d feel an awful mother not taking care of them and their teeth at only five too hope it goes ok

I personally have a great fear of dentists and for this reason, I would like to turn to a trusted doctor to reduce my fear and to be sure that there will be no complications along the way. I know it's not okay to be afraid of this, but I think it comes from childhood trauma and I have to overcome that over time. Some friends of mine recommended this company to me https://www.bridgedentalsmiles.co.uk/treatments/tooth-whitening/ because I want to do my tooth whitening and they said they are reliable. Can anyone here give any opinions?

Hi. My daughter had all her back teeth taken out at 3yr old shes now 5.
How old is your lil one. Im worried about her getting wobbly teeth and loosing her front ones.

My son had tooth problems despite taking good care of his teeth, and the dentist advised him that his tooth needed to be extracted to prevent further infection. For a few days, there was mild discomfort and swelling. When a baby tooth is extracted before the permanent tooth erupts, the other teeth may shift to fill the gap, which can lead to future complications. It is therefore critical to take children to a dental hygienist once every six months to ensure that everything is in order.

It highlights the importance of seeking the advice of a trusted dentist, such as a dentist Calgary SE, to determine the best course of action for a child's oral health. With proper care and attention, parents can help their children maintain healthy teeth and prevent the need for extractions in the future.
