My daughter is 3.5 and has been potty trained for a few months now. Recently she has started to have some day accidents which hasn’t been an issue. I have calmly cleaned them up and told her to try and get to the potty next time. Fast forward a few weeks she is having 4/5+ accidents a day and soiling herself. We are going away for 2 weeks on holiday and I can’t bear the thought of having to wash her clothes in the hotel room because of her accidents. Myself and my husband have worked really hard to save for this holiday and all be it selfish I don’t want to be cleaning up constantly after my daughter whilst away. Is it unreasonable to put her back into nappies for the holiday and work on it once home?

Only you and your husband can decide what's best for your child.

You got to do what you feel right at the time and if you feel it would impact on your holiday then use nappies

I personally wouldn't use nappies as it could take longer to get her back to using potty as she may get used to going in the nappy.

I don’t think you are being selfish at all, just practical. If she is having quite a few accidents, she might not be ready yet anyway. Better to have an enjoyable stress free holiday (as much as poss with a little one!) and then concentrate on potty training once you’re home again. Change of environment wouldn’t help the potty training anyway. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

You could use the pull up nappies which at least mimic normal underwear, and then anytime she wants to use the potty it’s still easy enough. I used these with my daughter and she was potty trained easily enough.

I’d say it would be a good idea to use pull ups. As she is near the start of her leaning. With my first we went to the caravan just after we had started potty training. We kept taking him to the toilet every 45 mins/ 60 mins and by the end of the holiday he resented the ‘toilet’ because when he was having fun we had to keep stopping whatever we were doing to try for the toilet. Whenever he did have an accident he didn’t want to get changed because he was so engrossed having fun. Once we come home he started refusing the toilet and walking round with wet pants not saying anything. It was like he didn’t want to miss anything.

fast forward to my next 4 children and I have always if we are going somewhere or doing something exciting at the beginning of their toilet training used pull ups. And they have transitioned back to wearing knickers quite easily.

im sure you will make the right decision for your family, don’t doubt yourself mummy x

Yeah I'd prob put her in pull ups but still encourage use of potty and toilet at all times. Ask if she needs a wee/poo regularly etc. Then start again properly when you get home if she's still wetting and soiling. It's not unusual to have regressions. X

Awkward situation for sure. How about decent pull ups so they’re like pants, but hopefully catch most if not all accidents?

Hi, You could buy some of the padded training pants. They are the same as pull ups but are made of fabric rather than plastic. They are washable too so they can be used while she's settling back down into routine again. Nice patterns and colours too.

I could have wrote this exact post myself last year. We were in the same position with our daughter who had been potty trained but was going through a period of regression since my son was born. We ended up using nappies and pull ups.

During the flight and at night I put a regular nappy on her as we found they held more and leaked a lot less. In the daytime we used pull ups and got her to tell us if she needed to go potty.

We went away for 2 weeks and by the end of the 2nd week she had no interest at all so we just had her in nappies. It saved so much washing and was a stress free holiday. When we got back within 2/3 weeks she was back in pants. I think it’s quite common for children to go through stages of regression.

Have a great holiday!

100% would stick her in nappies, have a break and a reset then try again once home. Don’t forget swim nappies as well as they were super expensive when we were away
