Hi all,

I have a huge phobia of being sick and am just looking for some reassurance.

I honestly hate myself so much as I get myself into such a state when anyone is sick and I want nothing more than to be able to care for them and not feel like this but it really scares me.

My stepson was sick Friday morning. By Friday night my husband was sick. My mum then caught it Saturday night as my step son was first sick at her house. I kept my husband and step son upstairs as I have a one year old and didn’t want him to catch it and I slept downstairs for a couple of nights, following the 48 hour rule.

now my one year old has been sick everywhere tonight (Tuesday) Words can not describe how much I love him but am now petrified of going near him and catching it. Which I know is awful as I should just comfort him and look after him.

im currently the only one who hasn’t caught it yet.

Has anyone had it where they don’t catch it and everyone else does?

I wish I didn’t feel like this but I go into not eatinf mode and I don’t sleep as don’t want to wake up in the night and be sick. I just hate the whole thing and my husband has to go to work. 🥺

Hi Jordan,

I'm Loraine, one of the Netmums' Parent Supporters.

Thank you for posting your phobia so clearly on here and I know that some of our netmums' community will be able to relate as we've had threads dedicated to this subject in the past. You can read some of the previous posts at: https://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/drop-clinic-984/maternal-mental-health-995/28026145-emetophobia-is-ruining-my-life.html

As you will read, this condition is called emetophobia and is linked with anxiety. Have you had a chat with your GP about ways to help you overcome this fear? They may refer you to counselling or suggest NHS talking therapies. You can find out more about this at: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/talking-therapies-medicine-treatments/talking-therapies-and-counselling/nhs-talking-therapies/

Hopefully, it's a comfort to know that you're definitely not alone Jordan and that there is help out there.

Come back and let us know how things are and what support you've accessed and we'll try to support you in any way we can.

Loraine x
