I am cool with this but OH thinks it is a definite no and that he will get picked on, his sister paints her nails and he wants his done as well-he's 6.

I can't think of any good reason not to let him, especially at 6.

But then I was a teen in the 80s, and a lot of us painted our nails to match our eyeshadow and blusher back then!

My 6 year old occasionally asks for his doing, if I'm doing his sister's nails. I happily oblige.

My son is 6 and I let him paint his toe nails , he will ask for his toe nails to get painted and I've bought him nail polish when he asks for it . Most mums I speak to in his class will say their boys are the same .

Nothing wrong with a boy of any age painting their nails at all! If girls can have pretty nails, boys can too!

Can understand he would be worried about him getting picked on. But would he even be going anywhere with it on? I wouldn't let my daughter go to school school it on, so would be the same if i had a son. Don't see any issue other than that, he's only playing x

Yes, definitely.

Both my son and my nephew love nail polish, I bought my nephew his own set for Christmas, he's 10 and gives precisely no f***s. He wears his nails coloured every day to school, and not one single child has said anything to him - the odd one says it's 'cool'. He's not a gender curious child at all, he just loves his nails painted.

My son used to love having his toe nails painted until he was about 9 or 10. He doesn't do it now, but has admired my nephews finger nails.

Tell your husband, times have truly changed on this front, it's just not a big deal for the kids anymore.

I work with hundreds of children. See it all the time. No one has ever been picked on because of it to my knowledge. Boys can be visual too and like all colours, sparkles, shiny things, interesting and intricate shapes and patterns that we might describe as ‘pretty’ … none of these are exclusively a girls domain.

Hi, like others I don't really see the problem with it. My children (older boy, younger girl) attend an after-school club a couple of times a week, the club often has 'theme' afternoons and provides structured activities for attendees. Recently, one of the new key-workers who also works as a nail technician offered to do a pop-up nail-salon for the children for fun. The club promptly sent out permission forms for the parents and the feedback was the kids loved it! The boys had their nails painted too, the key-worker is really skilled and was able to do all sorts of special effects on the nails, it was very creative!

Painted my son's nails and bright red when he was 3, he went daycare the other day like that. Some 4 years old had mentioned that only women paint their nails, a male educator had said it wasn't true, and I told him at home it doesn't matter what others think, if he likes it then it's beautiful, he still likes it at 5 but hasn't really asked for it again, except for mentioning here and there that he would like to do it again sometime. He also likes to wear pink and likes anything pink. Up to now I don't know anything about anyone picking on him for this, he even mentioned once, at our daycare pink is for boys too not only for girls, so I guess even there they are teaching them to like whatever they want.
