Tips for watching a family Christmas movie

Depending on how busy your home is, there's no doubting that Christmas can get quite chaotic, so follow our tips to keep the fun slightly more organised.

  • Take turns choosing a film to watch . If you've all got different tastes when it comes to movies (i.e. the parents want to watch an old classic and the kids are after the latest adventure movie), then choosing a film to watch can be no easy feat. Take away the hassle and the arguments by letting each family member have a night where it's their turn to choose a film to watch. That way, everyone gets what they want - and you'll all have the chance to discover a new film you'd never thought to watch!
  • Take it to a vote. If you don't fancy having a movie night each, then you can make a list of all the movies suitable for your kids and have everyone vote for their favourite. If there's a clear winner, you're sorted. If not, have everyone write their favourite Christmas movie down on a piece of paper, then pick one out of a hat (perhaps a Santa hat or elf hat to make things festive). You can always keep the rest of the pieces of paper in there for the next time you're planning to watch a film.
  • Play a Christmas movie quiz. If you want to get your kids really excited and switched on during the film, why not tell them you'll do a Christmas movie quiz once the film finishes? You can either find one online (especially if the movie's a popular one) or if there isn't one out there then you could note down simple questions while watching the movie, or think off the top of your head if you've watched it before. The kids will love the competition, and you can even have some Christmas-themed prizes on hand for the winner (though it's always a good idea to give some smaller consolation presents to the other players too). Let the fun begin!
