Do you know your nappy lingo?

Who knew something so simple could sound so complex? We’re here to guide you through...

It sometimes feels like you should get handed a special dictionary along with your newborn for all the new terminology you’re suddenly expected to know. Case in point: nappies. What’s the betting no one ever uttered the phrase ‘wetness indicator’ before becoming a parent.

And even if you’re a seasoned nappy changer, if you decide to shop around for a better brand or price (and by the way, if you do, check out Aldi’s Mamia range which combines quality and affordability) it could throw you into a whole new world of terms you never knew existed.

(Plus, shout out to new grandparents venturing into the baby aisle for the first time in a looooong time!)

FREE NEWBORN NAPPIES

Never fear, it’s all a lot simpler than it sounds. And definitely simpler than dealing with a poonami on a conference call during lockdown. Just us? Here’s what you need to know...

C is for… core

This is the absorbent bit in the middle of the nappy where everything gets soaked up. Basically your new BFF.

H is for...hypoallergenic

You might know this one from buying washing powder? If a nappy claims to be hypoallergenic it means it contains fewer - or no – allergens.

L is for...liquid distribution

Some nifty nappies, including those in the Mamia range, will take liquid and spread it out evenly through the nappy’s core to prevent sagging and discomfort. Smart.

L is also for...leg elastic

Imagine the ‘leg holes’ of a nappy - they’re designed to be stretchy for a snug fit (and no leaks!) but you want them to be comfy too. Mamia premium nappies have extra gentle leg elastics that apply 4x less pressure than traditional round elastics. Bye-bye red marks.

N is for...nappy pants

Exactly what they sound like - a mash-up of the pull-on ease of pants with the protection-factor of nappies. Mamia nappy pants come with the bonus of easy tear away sides for a faff-free (smear-free - sorry for the mental image!) change.

P is for….plus sizes

Nope, not extra roomy nappies for chunky monkeys. Plus sizes are simply extra absorbent versions of normal sizes for times when you need it. Think car journeys or shopping trips.

S is for…. SHA

If nappies have the SHA stamp of approval - as all Mamia nappies do - it means they’re Skin Health Alliance accredited. This confirms they’re skin safe a.k.a. the very least you’d want for your little one.

S is for… slim design

Nope, once again, not for babies on the dinkier end of the spectrum. These nappies have reduced bulk which makes it easier for babies to wriggle or waddle around.

U is for… Ultra-Dry Air system

Mamia’s special Ultra-Dry Air system™  means the nappies have a specially designed core (you already know that one!) that locks away wetness quickly and is breathable for added comfort. Clever stuff.

W is for… wetness indicator

Nappies with one of these, including Mamia’s premium nappies, feature a strip that changes colour when it’s time for a change. A welcome warning, we say.

Congrats, you can now speak fluent nappy – and you’re armed with the lingo you need to hit the nappy aisle/button.

When you’re there check out the Aldi Mamia range which features nappies, newborn nappies, premium nappies (with the bonus of extra gentle leg elastic and extra soft layers) and nappy pants (that are extra stretchy) – all with the same Dry Fast Technology™.
