We know dinosaurs aren’t technically related to the meaning of Easter – but they do lay eggs so ...

We love this Easter bonnet idea with a toy dinosaur, Mini Eggs and some fake foliage stuck on the crown. Epic.

How to make this top hat:

• Cut a brim out of a piece of black card – make sure it fits your child’s head.
• Then, take a piece of yellow card and roll into a long cylinder shape.
• Secure with Sellotape and then tape it onto the brim of your hat. Your basic top hat is now ready.
• Next, draw Batman’s head and mask on a piece of black card.
• Cut this out and glue to the yellow cylinder part of your top hat.

For an Easter look ...

• Cut some large bunny ear shapes out of the black card
• Glue these to the hat.
• You can add cotton wool to the ears to make them look more bunny-like.

Your child will take a shine to this gold Easter bonnet!

Spray card with gold paint (or use gold card) and make a top hat, following the instructions from the Batman hat.

If you cut a circle (the brim) slightly too large and make several snips along the edges it's easy to glue or stick them to your cylinder shape.

Then, decorate with plastic or polystyrene eggs. A bit of straw or raffia makes a great final flourish.

To make this fab bird's nest Easter hat:

• Find an old trilby hat or bowler hat from your wardrobe or charity shop
• Glue plenty of straw, paper straw or raffia right the way round.
• Add a cardboard hen on the top
• Don't forget some fluffy Easter chicks or even some chocolate mini eggs.

To make the hat:

• Use papier-mache round a bowl that fits your child’s head.
• Add more on the top to make it look like the egg has been ‘scooped’.
• When dry, paint it brown with a yolk effect on the top.

It’s a bit fiddly to make, but so worth it!

How to make this giant carrot Easter hat:

• Take a large sheet of orange paper or card and fold into a large cone shape, making sure it fits comfortably on your child’s head. Secure the cone with tape.
• Then, using a black felt tip, draw rings round the cone to give it a carrot effect.
• For added fun, you can also glue a toy rabbit to the side – just make sure it’s not too heavy to avoid it making the cone bend.
• For the finishing touch, stick on some strips of green paper around the rim of the cone to look like the carrot stem.

How to make this cute lamb Easter hat:

• Use a straw hat or bowler hat and cover the crown (the bit that goes over your head) with glued-on cotton wool balls.
• Meanwhile, cover the brim of the hat with green tissue paper to look like grass.
• Fluffy Easter chick toys can give an extra-Easter feeling.
• How about some fake flowers for more of a spring effect?
• Finally, use black card to make your lamb’s face and legs and glue on.

Not baaaaaad!

This Easter bonnet idea is perfect for little Angry Birds fans.

How to make it:

• Take a bowler or trilby hat and glue yellow feathers on the brim so it’s completely covered.
• Then take a big piece of yellow card or paper, and fold into a cone, big enough for the bottom to cover the crown of the hat.
• Secure the cone shape using Sellotape and then glue onto your hat.
• Use orange card to make your Angry Bird’s nose and card or felt to make its eyes and eyebrows.

To make this cool farm-themed Easter hat for boys:

• Glue some straw on the brim of a hat.
• Next raw and cut out a tractor and some Easter bunnies from a piece of card.
• Glue them to the front of your hat.
• You can even add some little toy farmyard animals if you have any lying around in the toy box – just make sure they're light enough so they don’t weigh the hat down.

Looking for a funny idea for an Easter hat? This one features a bunny from a different angle!

Here's how to make it:

• Take a straw hat or bowler and cover the crown with cotton wool roll.
• Glue some extra cotton wool balls on the top to make your bunny’s tail.
• Then use felt or card to make your bunny’s feet and glue them onto the hat to make it look like the rabbit is running away from you.
• You can also make carrots out of card, rolled into a cone shape and glue them to the brim of the hat as well, for added effect.

• Take a straw hat and place it on top of a piece of black card. Draw round the edge of the hat so you have a circle shape.
• Cut the circle out of the card and then cut a hole in the middle of the card so it slots neatly over the crown of the hat and onto the brim.
• Glue in place then use white paint to draw road markings on the black card.
• Then, either glue on lightweight toy cars to look like they are driving round the track, or decorate plastic egg containers to look like cars and attach.
• Feathers and Easter stickers complete the look.

This is an effective and fun Easter hat for little ones to help make.

How to make it:

• Take two pieces of felt in contrasting shades of green. Cut each into strips about 30cm wide.
• On the top horizontal edge of each, cut to form spikes. These will form the spiky grass effect on your hat.
• Fold the first piece of felt round to form a loop, making sure it fits your child’s head. Secure the loop with tape.
• Then put the second piece of felt over the top and again, fold to form a loop – you should now have a double layered effect on your hat.

How to make it:

• Take a piece of card and fold into a loop to fit your child’s head before securing with tape.
• Then glue on lots of small carrots – this works best if they're cut in half, so there's a flat side to glue to the loop.

That's it! We like to leave a little of the greenery at the top of the carrots for added decoration.

• Grab an old hat
• Make a nest with hay (try a pet shop). Raffia is another option.
• Add colourful shredded paper on top of the brim.
• Customise with chicks and eggs.

This is an Easter bonnet idea for boys (and girls) that goes up up and away!

How to make it:

• Get 10 or more balloons filled with helium so they stay floating in the air. A helium canister can be great to have at home to blow up balloons for parties and special occasions. Here's a great value helium balloon canister .
• Tie a long length of string to each balloon.
• Wrap the string round the crown of the hat and secure in place using tape.

• Take a shoe box and make sure it fits your child’s head – put it on so the long edge is at the front. Take off, then cover in red material, tissue or paper.

You can do this with any dressing up mask, from The Hulk and Batman through to a Stormtrooper.

By using dark materials and metal, you can even give the Easter bunny an industrial look.

Make it using a headband, wire, feathers and superglue.

• Fashion ears out of crafting wire, an old wire hanger or even pipe cleaners
• Glue them to the inside of the headband.
• Glue some fabric or some kind of padding over the edges so they aren't uncomfortable against your child's head.

A bowler hat is a lot less fancy and frilly than a traditional bonnet.

This magnificent Easter hat has been decorated with cleverly folded ribbon to make Easter bunnies. You can festoon yours with any Easter decorations you have, from candy eggs to mini bunnies and chicks to hand-drawn pictures of flowers.

It looks brilliant.

This is a great spring scene themed hat.

Using green and white scrap felt, make some 3D trees and sheep.

• Cut out the tree and lamb shapes, sew the edges together and stuff with filling or cotton wool.
• Glue them to a hat covered with felt or fake grass.
• Attach a felt or paper picket fence around the edge and decorate with some little flowers.

A nice little scene for Easter!

This will require some serious papier-mache skills, but what child wouldn't like an oversized dinosaur egg for an Easter bonnet?!

• For a base use an old hat or create one using the method for the Batman one mentioned earlier.
• Make the papier-mache egg big enough to hold your toy dinosaur. Make sure you secure the dinosaur inside so it doesn't roll around or fall out!
• Use popsicle sticks all around the top. These look good and will help support your dinosaur egg.
• Attach with glue to the top of your hat.
• Decorate the brim with fake grass and mini 'dinosaur' eggs.
