A traditional favourite, an Easter egg hunt is perfect for children (and adults!) of all ages.

We've got some brilliant rhyming clues you can print off and use.

For older children, try these Easter egg hunt clues for teens – they're trickier and will get even older children gleefully joining in the fun.

This is a great idea if you have a group of children of different ages and capabilities.

Have each child pick a coloured bucket and only pick up eggs that are the same colour as their bucket.

This will stop the older, faster children from finding all the eggs first, and make sure everyone has a great time.

Once each child has all their correct coloured eggs, they can receive a prize.

An alternative Easter egg hunt.

If you have a tent or playhouse, fill it with balloons and let children scrabble around inside searching for hidden eggs.

Alternatively, you could hide balloons instead of eggs to make for a colourful garden-scape as the children race around to gather them.

... use a ball pit as a great place to hide the eggs.

You can buy plastic hollow eggs in crafts shops cheaply. Put a piece of a puzzle in each egg and hide.

Then, as the children find the eggs, the second challenge can be to build the puzzle before they get their treats.

This is a great game, especially if it's raining outside.

Fill a clear jar with mini eggs, jelly beans, chocolate or sweets, remembering to make a note of how many you put in and seal the answer in an envelope.

Then get everyone to take a turn at guessing how many are in the jar.

The person who guesses the nearest gets a prize – perhaps even getting to take the jar of treats home.

What a lucky bunny – yum!

Easter egg rolling is one of the oldest traditional games ... and is great fun to play.

For Easter egg rolling you will need:

• one hard-boiled egg per child (plain or decorated)
• something to mark the start and finish with
• 1 wooden spoon per player

To play:

• Mark out a start and a finish point.
• Line the players up
• Get them to roll the egg from start to finish using wooden spoons
• Another option: You could require players crawl on hands and knees and push the eggs along using their noses!
• The winner is the one to reach the end without touching the egg with their hands. This works equally well indoors or out.

There are loads of different ideas for this. You could also have Pin the Egg on the Easter Basket, for example.

To play pin the tail on the Easter Bunny you'll need:

• large picture of an Easter bunny (we've got some great Easter pictures you can print off )
• cotton wool balls
• a small piece of sticky tape or Blu Tack for sticking
• a blindfold

To play:

• blindfold the first child
• spin them round 2 or 3 times
• face them in the right direction
• now let them try and stick the fluffy tail on the Easter bunny
• Wherever the child sticks the tail, write their name
• Then remove the cotton wool and let the next child have a go
• At the end, whoever's name is written closest to where the tail should actually be is the winner!

A variation on the popular Simon Says game.

If the children are old enough, one can be nominated as the Easter Bunny, or an adult can take this part.

The Bunny will say 'the Easter Bunny says...' and the rest of the children will carry out the action.

For example hop on one leg, put one hand in the air, spin around, etc. If anyone takes too long, they're out of the game.

If the Bunny gives an instruction without putting 'the Easter Bunny says' at the beginning of it, following the instruction also means you're out of the game.

The winner is the last child remaining.

An Easter party would be incomplete without an egg and spoon race!

To organise an egg and spoon race:

• Mark out a start and finish line.
• Give each person an egg and a spoon at the start line.
• When the race starts, each player runs towards the finish line trying to keep their egg on the spoon.
• The winner is the first person to reach the finish line with their egg on their spoon.

Variations:

This could also be played as ...

• a relay race
• a three-legged race
• or as an obstacle course.

If you want to play with real eggs instead of chocolate ones, be sure to hard-boil them first to minimise the mess!

If it's nice weather out, it's fun to use water balloons and large wooden spoons to race with.

Afterward you can organise a balloon toss with any balloons that survive the race.

This is great fun for an Easter party – just try not to smash all the Easter eggs.

To do Easter egg bowling, you'll need:

• one large Easter egg
• several smaller eggs

To play:

• Place the larger egg at one end of the room.
• Give each child a different coloured smaller egg
• The kids can then take it in turns rolling their egg from the other end of the room to see who can get theirs nearest to the large egg

Turn simple plastic cups into bunny pins with ears and googly eyes, then take turns trying to knock them down with a ball.

Set a start line and a finish line.

The contestants stand at the start line inside of their sacks, holding them with both hands at their waist.

When the race begins the participants must hop to the finish line while staying inside of their sacks.

The first person to cross the finish line wins.

For young kids, pillow cases might be better than large sacks.

Have everyone wear bunny ears to give it an Easter twist.

This relay race is a great way for your kids to burn off some energy before your big family Easter lunch.

Decide the different things the players will have to do in the relay race.

For example:

• dribble a football
• use pillow cases for a sack race
• hop on one leg etc.

Split the kids into teams and get the first child from each team to stand on the start line. Then get them to race to the finish line and back doing one of the relay activities.

When they are done, the next child races and so on. The first team to have all its players complete all the challenges wins!

Much like beer pong, but for kids and Easter!

Fill the cups with a few mini eggs and then throw a plastic egg (or a ping pong ball) and try and get it into the paper cups.

If your ball gets into the cup, you win those mini eggs.

This version of cornhole uses a huge carton box and makes it into a super-cute bunny rabbit.

Cut a large hole in the box and then let the children try and roll their balls into the rabbit's mouth.

Another cornhole variation, if you're feeling super crafty: Make this cut-out cardboard rabbit, leaving a large hole for the mouth and the tummy.

Then make some carrot-shaped bean bags with felt and fill with dried beans.

Toss your bean bags at the rabbit to see who can get them through the holes and win a prize.

Alternatively, you can make the bunny and throw chocolate eggs through the holes.

This is a great team game that gets chaotic quickly!

Tape a Tupperware dish to a headband and take it it turns to 'catch' the eggs.

One person tries to aim the eggs into the pot, the person wearing the head gear needs to try and catch them.

Use light plastic eggs to avoid injury!

A lovely game for small children.

Do some simple small drawings in rows on a large sheet of paper, taking care to draw two of the same in random spaces ie two eggs, two flowers etc.

Then cover the pictures with the tops of plastic eggs (you can buy these cheaply in shops).

Each player should take it in turns to pick up two eggs, revealing two pictures and try and find the pairs.

This Easter word finder game is suitable for older children who have a reasonable level of reading and writing.

You'll need:

• piece of paper
• a pencil for each child
• a timer.

How to play:

Think of an Easter-related word or phrase and get the children to make as many smaller words as they can out of it before the timer runs out.

The winner is the child to make the most words.

Example: Chocolate
Words: late, hate, hat, eat, cheat, coat, hot, lot, at, cool, tool, heat ...

Example: Hot Cross Bun
Words: sun, hob, sob, run, rob, us, to, boo, toss, too, both, rot, boss ...

Example: Easter Eggs

Bingo is a great way to introduce children to the concept of playing games, because there are few rules and each player has their own game board.

You can create your own boards or find free downloads online.

On slips of paper, write down some fun physical challenges,

such as:

• hopping like a bunny
• running to the end of the garden and back
• or doing a silly dance

Pop each slip of paper into a plastic egg (you can buy these cheaply at craft shops or online). Then let the kids pick eggs at random to find their next challenge.

You can give a little prize for each challenge completed or a bigger prize at the end.

A fun and educational game.

You'll need:

• a dozen eggs box
• a sharpie
• some plastic eggs

How to play:

Number the inside of the egg box 1-12, then draw simple sums on each plastic egg that will come to the value of each number.

When the children get all the eggs in the correct places, they can receive a prize.

This version of maths eggs does the same thing with letters.

This is a great game for preschoolers.

Write letters on the bottom of paper cake cases and on plastic eggs, and then let children match them up.

Great fun for little hands. With ice-cream scoops or dessert spoons, let toddlers try and scoop eggs out of a deep dish.

Can the kids unscramble all the letters to find some Easter words?

Draw your own versions, or find some printable versions online.

If you have kids of different ages, you could even get the older kids to create the challenge for the younger ones.

It's a great way to quieten things down if the party's getting a bit too lively!

Cut out egg shapes from plain paper, then gather as many crafty materials as you can.

Give each child an egg and let them get creative.

Someone can be the judge and the winner of the best egg can receive a prize.

Alternatively, you could blow or hard-boil some real eggs, and let the kids have a crack at some 3D Easter egg decorating .

This party game is a bit like a traditional lucky dip, but children will enjoy 'punching' through the tissue paper to reveal their Easter surprise.

Put treats into cups, then wrap the cups tightly with tissue paper.

Make this game Easter themed by arranging the cups into a bunny or egg shape.

This is not a game as such, but a lovely idea.

Build the anticipation for Easter with an adorable countdown calendar.

Beginning 30 days before Easter, string hollow plastic eggs together and put a small treat in each one.

Open one each day, until the big day itself!

Make it into a game by ...

• setting a timer to go off at 20 second intervals
• everyone around the colouring table gets a turn to shout out a colour for each interval
• kids have to use that colour in their picture until the timer goes off and the next person calls out the next colour.

It'll be fun to see everyone's multicoloured pictures at the end!

What better way to celebrate Easter than with a classic Easter bonnet?

Start by either gathering some hats (you can probably find some cheap ones in your local charity shop), or making simple hats by looping card around each child's head.

Then get out the craft supplies and let them have at it, to see who can decorate the best Easter bonnet.

Never heard of Peeps? They're a fun marshmallow treat. Any fans of 'Bunny Suicides' will love this game ...

To play Peeps war you'll need at least two players – each gets a pack of Peeps. (You can also play this with regular marshmallows.)

Line up the marshmallows in a row on opposite sides of a table.

Then, using light plastic Easter eggs (you can buy them cheaply online or use the toy eggs you get in Kinder eggs) each player has to try to knock all their opponent's Peeps off the table first!

Cascarones is a fun Easter game that originates from Mexico and involves playing with hollowed out eggs that are filled with confetti.

How to make cascarones:

• Make a hole one end and scoop out the insides, leaving the shell to dry out.
• Then fill the egg shells with confetti.
• Seal up the hot with tissue paper and glue.
• Once dry, paint and decorate the eggs ready for the game.

To play:

Hide the eggs in the garden and lets the kids loose to find them.

Once all the eggs are found the war commences ...

which basically means the kids can have lots of fun chasing their friends and smashing the eggs on their heads so the confetti spills out.

Watch out – because things are bound to get crazy!

• Now each player takes turns to uncover two jelly beans at a time to see if the colours match.
• If they do match they get to keep (and eat) the jelly beans.

Make sure that your kids are old enough to east jelly beans safely without choking.

For an Easter-themed one, set your timer for 60 seconds (or less to amp up the excitement) and see how many plastic egg halves can be stack without toppling over!

This super simple, ancient game is pretty addictive – guaranteed to keep competitive kids engaged while you crack on in the kitchen cooking up a delicious Easter feast!

Just string a plastic egg and paper cup together and let the kids take turns bouncing it around until the egg lands in the cup.

This fun Easter game is all about teamwork!

• Get the kids into pairs facing each other at a starting line.
• The kid with the egg tosses it to the other.
• With each toss, each kid takes a large step backward until they reach an end mark and return to the starting line with an unbroken egg.
• If a team doesn't complete their toss without the egg breaking, they're out of the game.

You can boil the eggs for less mess when they fall to the ground.

This is a fun Easter egg trading game to play with friends and family.

For Easter egg swap, you will need:

• Plastic eggs that have been filled with candy, treats, or small toys.
• 2 x dice
• Timer

To play:

• Player 1 rolls the dice and then trades an Easter egg with another player – as directed by the key below. (Do NOT open the eggs – keep the contents secret until the end.)
• Continue until all of the players have rolled the dice, and then play for as many rounds as you like.
• Once you have finished the game, everyone opens the eggs they're left with after trading to reveal their prizes.
