I need some advice, I am currently pregnant with my 3rd child, 4 years ago I had a mental break down due to SA at the time I was in a bad way my sons dad to looked after my son and ask social services for restpite with my daughter,  Social services didn't want to wait till I got better and suggested Adoption I refused as this was only temporary with my daughter, my daughter did end up being adopted and i was dignoised with traits of Bpd which done nothing to help, I am now worried I will end up having Social services and they will try to take my baby I dont even know if I can refuse them , I am in a lot better place and currently working to and my mental health is stable I also have my son on weekends. I more want to know if anyone been through simular or can advice me on what I am supposed to do.

Hi Barb,

I'm Emma, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy that is wonderful news! I can understand you are anxious about what may happen with this pregnancy due to your previous involvement with Social Services but their aim is to look out for the welfare of the child and it sounds like you are in a good place currently looking after your mental health, working and caring for your son at the weekends.

If they do become involved, this will all be taken into account as they look to keep the child with their parents in the first instance if they can provide a safe and loving home which is sounds like you can absolutely. We have published an article with info on Social Services involvement and the steps they take which you may find useful Barb. Hopefully some of our community members who may have been in a similar situation will be able to share their stories with you too.

Do come back and chat some more if we can help.

Take care of yourself,

Emma
