Baby rice pudding

  • 50g pudding rice

  • cinnamon

  • 350ml whole milk

  • ½ banana (optional), mashed

  1. Add the rice, pinch of cinnamon and milk to a saucepan

  2. Cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes

  3. Blend to the consistency that you want

  4. If using, add mashed banana (only add the banana to the portion about to be eaten, not to the entire quantity as it will make the puree turn brown)

Tips

This recipe has no added sugar, as all the sweetness comes from the banana. It's also great for baking a big batch and freezing into small portions, before you add the fruit.

Variations

Make a vegan version by swapping the cow's milk for oat or almond milk.

Try combining with a fruity puree to introduce your baby to new flavours.

Try adding slices of soft fruits like banana or strawberry. As your baby grows and starts to explore new textures, add in other fruits, like raisins, blueberries and sliced apple. Just make sure that any round fruits are cut in half before serving to your baby, to reduce the risk of choking.

    My son loves this. I add a small tin of peaches (in juice, not syrup, drained). I add for the last 15-20 minutes, then blend. I freeze it in little tubs & defrost as required. I'd happily eat it myself.
