Beef & horseradish casserole

  • 900g stewing steak, chopped

  • 2 onions, chopped

  • 2 carrots, chopped

  • 1 dss curry powder

  • 1 tsp ginger, ground

  • 1 dss muscavado sugar

  • 1 tbsp plain flour

  • 425ml stock made using 1 Knorr Zero Salt Beef Stock Cube

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • black pepper

  • 2 tbsp horseradish cream

  1. Heat a drop of oil in a large casserole (on the hob), add the onions and cook on a low heat for a couple of minutes to soften

  2. Add the chopped carrots and cook for a few more minutes before adding the meat

  3. Add the flour and spices and stir well to coat the meat - cook for a minute or so on a low heat

  4. Pour in the Knorr Zero Salt Beef stock, add the rest of the ingredients (except the horseradish) and bring to the boil, mixing well

  5. Put the lid on the casserole dish, put in the oven on gas mark 1-2/130-150'C for 4 -5 hours

  6. When ready to serve, stir in the horseradish cream

  7. Serve with potatoes and vegetables

Tips

You could add root vegetables to vary the recipe and use a mild curry powder so it's not too spicy for the little ones

Variations

Serving childrens' portions before adding the horseradish cream

Add some chunks of root vegetables to the casserole, before putting in the oven

Slow cooker method: coat the meat with flour and spices and brown in a pan (optional), transfer to the slow cooker and add the other ingredients - stir well - cook for 8-10 hours on low
