  • 200g dark chocolate, roughly chopped

  • 250g caster sugar

  • 200ml vegetable oil

  • 50g cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 50g self-raising flour

  • 3 large eggs

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/Gas mark 4. Get the kids to help you grease and line a 20cm square baking tin with baking parchment.

  2. Add the chocolate, sugar and 100ml of the oil to a large, heatproof mixing bowl. Place over a saucepan of simmering water on a low-medium heat, making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn't touch the water. Stir the mixture until all the chocolate has melted. Remove from the heat and leave to cool for a few minutes.

  3. Get the kids to help measure out the ingredients and sift the cocoa powder, baking powder and flour together in a separate bowl.

  4. Kids can help crack the eggs one at a time into a cup or small jug, then add them to the chocolate mixture. Alternate with a large spoonful of the flour mixture. Add the rest of the flour mixture and the remaining oil, and help your child give the mixture a big stir with a wooden spoon or balloon whisk until all combined.

  5. Spoon the mixture into the tin. Smooth the top and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top has formed a crust and the inside is cooked but still fudgy.

  6. Cool completely in the tin on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
