Molly-Mae mum-shamed for first trip to London with baby Bambi

Last modified on Wednesday 8 March 2023

Mum-of-one Molly-Mae has been criticised by followers for taking baby Bambi on a trip to London, with many commenting her daughter didn't appear to be in a car seat during a taxi ride

Molly-Mae fans have been left divided over the mum's latest Instagram post, which saw the influencer take her baby daughter Bambi on a trip to London.

The Insta post showed the mum and her 6-week-old daughter having a great time, with Molly-Mae, 23, sharing their walk around the city, the hotel room they stayed in and showing Bambi the sights of London.

Molly-Mae captioned the post, 'Bambi in London🤍🇬🇧'

However, some followers were quick to comment on pictures of a taxi ride the mum and daughter took around the capital.

As Molly-Mae shared a snap of her holding daughter Bambi up to the window of a black cab and showing her the sights, some fans remarked on the fact that Bambi wasn't in a car seat.

'Cute pics but baby needs to be strapped in a car seat'

While the law states that children under 3 can travel in the back of a taxi without a car seat in England if the driver doesn't have the correct one, some fans criticised Molly-Mae for her decision.

'The law doesn’t make things safe. I wouldn’t never risk the life of my child for a quick photo, and it shouldn’t be promoted,' said one follower.

A 2nd agreed, adding:

'So true! This is so unsafe 😢'

While it wasn't clear from the pictures whether the taxi was stationary, or whether Bambi was in a car seat during the ride, followers commented:

'Cute pics but baby needs to be strapped in a car seat 😭😭'

While another added:

'Using your baby as a photo prop in a moving taxi instead of keeping her as safe as possible in a car seat. Lovely influencing there, let's hope other people don't copy!!!'

'You can clearly see the car seat in the taxi!'

While the former Love Island star, who shares her daughter with partner Tommy Fury, 23, hasn't addressed the comments, some followers were quick to leap to her defence.

Some said she had a car seat with her and pointed out that the new mum may have just taken her daughter out to settle her, or while the taxi was parked.

'It's in the photo it's attached to her pram . I had the same one for my child..,' said one mum.

'You can clearly see the car seat in the taxi ! 🙄 x she obviously tooo baby out when car was stationary', said a 2nd.

'Not your child so its no problem is it. Molly knows what she is doing she is not harming her child,' added a 3rd.

And a 4th called on the trolls to stop taunting the new mum:

'Oh for goodness all you people who think you know it all! Leave Molly alone and stop ‘trolling’ this new Mum about everything she does. It may be things you wouldn’t do yourself for your reason but Molly can make decisions about her own child with getting nasty comments. You’re making what should be a happy time with her baby be miserable and probably feeling totally inadequate. If you can’t say anything nice …. shut up😡'

'Rest assured I don't make a safety conscious decision without first researching it'

Molly-Mae is not the 1st celeb to be criticised by followers for pictures of her child in a taxi without a car seat.

Just last month, Chloe Madeley took to Instagram to share some photos of her and husband James Haskell with 6-month-old daughter Bodhi .

One of the images showed Chloe and James in the back of a taxi, with James holding Bodhi on his lap. After posting the picture, Chloe received a comment questioning the couple's decision not to put their daughter in a car seat.

However, the personal trainer hit back at comments she'd received, calling on followers to look up the rules around babies and young children in taxis and minicabs and providing a link to the government's website.

She said:

'Women who've never met me or my baby thinking they care more about her than I do never fails to shock and disgust me.

'Rest assured I don't make a safety conscious decision without first researching it (and getting multiple second opinions from friends and family).'

What does the law say about babies, toddlers and children travelling in a taxi?

The rules about babies, toddlers and children in car seats differ depending on what type of vehicle you're travelling in and the age of the child.

However, the law states that a child aged 3 or older can travel without a car seat in the back of a taxi or minicab (including an Uber or car service) if they wear an adult seatbelt and sit in a rear seat.

Meanwhile, children under the age of 3 have to sit on an adult's lap but don't need to wear a seatbelt.

Here's what the government's website says about it:

'If the driver doesn’t provide the correct child car seat, children can travel without one - but only if they travel on a rear seat:

  • and wear an adult seat belt if they’re 3 or older
  • without a seat belt if they’re under 3'
