Things to do with kids in Shrewsbury and Shropshire

Situated on the Welsh-English border, Shropshire is a predominantly rural county with many pretty market towns, including its county town, Shrewsbury.

If you’re in the area with the family, you’ll find plenty of things to do with kids in Shrewsbury and Shropshire.

Shrewsbury itself is centred around the quaint Shrewsbury Square with its old market hall, which hosts a popular annual cartoon festival. Regular farmers’ markets and craft fairs still take place in the market hall, and there are a number of car boot sales in the area to appeal to bargain hunters.

Overlooking the town, the castle is home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum, where you’ll find military memorabilia from the 18th century to the present on display.

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy the great outdoors, head to The Quarry Park on the banks of the River Severn, where you can fish, cycle and unwind with a picnic.

Nearby, you’ll find the famous Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s often described as the birthplace of the Industrical Revolution, and The Wrekin: a hill that towers over the area and is popular with walkers looking to soak up the views.

Parents with small children are well catered for in Shrewsbury, with plenty of baby activities going on. Why not sign your water baby up for parent and child swimming lessons, or meet other mums and dads at one of the area's drop-in baby and toddler groups?
