Finding the perfect nappy for your baby is so important and makes life much easier for you too, as they’ll be much more content (and hopefully sleep for longer, too!)

So, what are the signs that your baby’s nappy fits perfectly – or not?

1 No red marks

If your baby has red marks around their waist or thighs when you take the nappy off, it’s a telltale sign that it’s much too small and is digging into their skin – ouch!

So, if your baby’s skin is smooth and unblemished, this means that their nappy fits well – just make sure it’s not TOO big.

You can check that it fits snugly around the waist and thighs by running your fingers around the edges and checking that there are no gaps for anything to escape (shudder).

2 No leaks

If your baby stays dry and leak-free there’s a good chance that their nappy is a good fit.

A common cause of leakage happens when a nappy’s leg cuffs get tucked inside, so after putting it on, run your fingers around each leg to make sure that they are pulled out properly.

Did you know that Aldi Mamia nappies offer up to 12 hours day and night leak protection? HOW reassuring.

3 It looks good

You can often tell if a nappy is a good fit just by looking at it.

A correctly-fitting nappy will sit straight and look well-proportioned on your baby’s body, with lots of bottom coverage!

Aldi Mamia nappies are designed to absorb liquid quickly, so sag less and as a result have  a much better fit.

4 The waist tapes fit

Disposable nappies fasten at the waist with adhesive tapes and these are also a good indicator of how well it fits.

The tapes should be fastened symmetrically onto the waistband, so the nappy is snugly-fitting, but NOT stretched.

The tapes should close easily without being pulled or tugged

If you can’t fit two of your fingers under the waistband, it’s time to think about choosing a bigger nappy.

5 You know their weight

Always check that your baby is wearing the correct size nappy for their weight.

If they’re reaching the upper end of the weight range for their current  nappy, it’s  probably time for the next size.

A nappy that’s too small won’t have enough absorbency.

Too big and there will be gaps for wee and poo to escape – help!

A properly-fitting nappy should sit just slightly below your little one's belly button.

If it's looking like a low-rise pair of pants, it's time to move on up!

6 They're wearing the right type of nappy

As your baby grows and becomes more active, a different style of nappy is needed.

You can buy nappies specially designed for active babies, with a tailored shape and often stretchier sides to allow for more movement.

Aldi Mamia Nappy Pants are made for babies on the go, with a slim design for freedom of movement and lots of added stretch.

7 No nappy rash

Nappy rash can develop particularly during the night because nappies that are too small will hold any wetness close to your baby's skin, causing irritation.
