Urgent product recalls issued over popular foods including cereal and protein bars

Last modified on Monday 17 April 2023

Tesco, Aldi and Iceland have urgently recalled various products due to safety concerns, instructing customers NOT to consume them

Parents should check their cupboards ASAP as supermarkets are recalling various products – including cereal – from their shelves due to potential safety risks.

In an allergy alert, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Tesco would recall its Free From Bran Flakes due to some packs containing a different cereal inside.

Aldi has pulled Harvest Morn High Protein Bars from its shelves because of ingredients in the bars containing peanuts, milk and soya despite these not being emphasised in bold on the label.

And, Iceland is recalling its Takeaway Chicken Bhuna due to it containing milk despite this not being stated on the packaging.

Cereal recall

Chocolate Pillows – which contain hazelnuts and milk – were discovered in the Bran Flakes packaging, despite the ingredients not being listed on the box.

The cereal recall means the Bran Flakes could be dangerous for those suffering with nut or dairy allergies.

Families who have already bought the Bran Flakes have been instructed to return the affected product to Tesco to get a full refund, with no receipt or proof of purchase required.

Full product details

The full product details of the affected cereal are as follows:

Product: Tesco Free From Bran Flakes

Pack size: 300g

Best before: 26 May 2024

Allergen issue: Milk and hazelnut

'Do not consume this product'

In a customer notice, Tesco said: 'We have been made aware that some packs of Tesco Free From Bran Flakes 300g may contain a small amount of another variant of cereal (chocolate pillows), which contains milk and hazelnut.

'This is not declared on the Tesco Free From Bran Flakes 300g packaging and therefore the product could pose a safety risk to those people with an allergy or intolerance to milk and/or nuts.

'Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy to milk and/or hazelnuts, return the affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.'

Aldi has also pulled Harvest Morn High Protein Bars from its shelves.

'Return it for a refund'

In a statement, Aldi said: 'As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Harvest Morn High Protein Bars because in some cases allergens are not emphasised in bold on the packaging.

'Anyone who has bought this product and suffers from an allergy or intolerance to the ingredients listed, should return it to any Aldi store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.'

Iceland recall

Meanwhile, Iceland has pulled its Takeaway Chicken Bhuna from shelves due to it containing milk which is NOT stated on the packaging.

Due to a packaging error, some packs of the takeaway might contain Iceland Takeaway Creamy Butter Chicken, making this a possible health risk for those with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.
