Why your sofa could be costing you £100 a YEAR

Last modified on Thursday 13 April 2023

Turns out the positioning of your furniture can have a big impact on your bank account and, if it's in the wrong place, can send your bills soaring. Who knew?!

With the cost of living crisis showing no signs of abating, you're probably on top of all the tricks for keeping your energy bills down.

But what most of us probably haven't realised is that the positioning of our FURNITURE could actually play a part.

According to a heating expert, the placement of your family's sofa could be adding an extra £100 per year to your energy bills. Say what?

'Costing you over £100 a year'

Speaking to The Sun, Nicholas Auckland from Trade Radiators explained how your couch could be costing you money:

'Having a sofa and other furnishings blocking your radiators could be costing you over £100 a year, especially if you are consistently turning the heating up so you can feel it better,' he said.

The exact amount of money it costs you will depend on factors like the size of your house and how often you crank the heating up.

Even so, it could be well worth giving your furniture a rearrange!

'Instead of turning it up, remove any furnishings'

Nicholas went on: 'Instead of turning it up, remove any furnishings from in front of your radiators to feel the true extent of the warmth your radiators let out.'

Duly noted!

If you're looking for more ways to save on your energy bills (and who isn't right now) regularly carrying out meter readings can help avoid your energy supplier estimating your usage and potentially overcharging you.

It's also a good idea to keep your home well insulated, by targeting the areas of your house where cold air comes in, such as doors, windows and floorboards.
